      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;Hi,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Either way failover works.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I think that the recommendation is to use a switch (with no other devices in the same VLAN) for failover communication.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I think that is because when using a switch and if one interface fails, it will show down on the failed unit but still will show up on the working unit, so it makes troubleshooting easier.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;When you use a cross-over cable, in the same scenario, both interfaces will show down on both units.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I'm not aware if there are other advantages or downsides.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Federico.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
