SNMP and CSS11052

We use HP openview as a monitor for our SNMP traps.

I have a couple of CSSs in my network, and i am not using the management

interface. I would like to change the SNMP source interface to a fastethernet interface instead of the management one, so openview has a way of contacting the CSS. ( the management interface is still default setup).

is there a way to force the snmp source address - or interface- in the css? just as i do on the routers.

When a trap is sent, the agent IP address (within the trap PDU) is always the IP address of the management port. The UDP header source field will contain the address of the interface through which the trap was sent (egress flow.).With WebNS you can configure a new MIB value (apSnmpExtTrapSourceIp) that will be used as the source IP address of the UDP header in the trap. You can specify that the management port, egress port or a specified IP address be used.

There is no config command to change the source IP address of SNMP on a CSS like there is on a router. The CSS will use the IP address of the management port even if the management port is not being used. This is why your traps are using the address 1.1.1.1, that is the default address of the management port that Cisco sets at the factory. If you change the ip address of the management port you will get traps with that address. I changed the address on my CSS boxes but do not use the management port.

There is an "snmp trap source" command in release 5.02 and later.

It allows you to specify which IP address the CSS will use in the traps.

These "feature" releases also now support TACACS+.
