we have identical 2 Data centers with the same content, in each datacenter, we have 2 connections: MPLS for Intranet

connection and Internet connection

we are going to deploy GSS in the Data center to implement redunduncy/load sharing. what is the minimum number of GSS

we need to buy?

I know GSS has 3 different roles: GSSM (primary), GSSM (backup) and GSS.

Can I say GSSM primary must be physically different from GSSM backup? Are they have the identical configuration? Can we

deploy GSSM primary in Data center 1 and GSSM backup in Data center 2? what is the best practise?

Do we need seperated GSSM for server for Internet connection and Intranet connection?

thanks in advance!

GSS configured in any of the three modes (GSSM-P, GSSM-S & GSS) performs DNS functions according to the configuration performed on the GSSM-Primary.

Configuration changes for the GSS Network can only be performed on the GSSM Primary. GSSM-primary provides the centralized GUI to configure DNS rules for the entire GSS network.

Any changes made on the GSSM-Primary are synchronized with the GSSM-Standby.In other words GSSM-Standby holds an exact replica of GSS Database. In case of GSSM-Primary's failure , GSSM-Standby provide s a centralized GUI to configure/make changes to the existing GSS infrastructure.

All GSSs poll the IP Address of the Primary GSSM in order to gather configuration updates and report statistics, and will poll the Standby GSSM if the Primary GSSM is unreachable.

If the GSSs are going be only internet facing in two data centers then you need atleast two GSSs in two Data centers (One acting as GSSM-P & one configured as GSSM-S).

If GSS's are deployed to in a Split DNS scenario, then you will need to setup two GSS Networks. One set of GSSM-P & GSSM-S for the external GSS Network and another one for the internal GSS Network.

A "GSS Network" is a collection of one to eight GSS's, each interacting with geographically dispersed SLB's, and "independently" answering DNS queries.

Syed Iftekhar Ahmed

Thanks Syed, for the valuable information,

Need to know to what entries should go in the Public DNS server for the domail/url x.y.com so that the request from clients or DNS-Proxy for the domain x.y.com is responded by the GSS-P or GSS-S. Secondly which GSS will respond to the client/DNS-P response. Thanks
