URL Filter on a 565 cache engine

Hi there,

We currently plan to use a URL filtering method to block bad sites. Our organisation is a school board of about 75 schools, 30000 users and 5000 computers. Our internet link is 10Mbit Burstable to 20Mbit. We use a 565 cache engine with ACNS 5.1.1 as a proxy.

My question is about the URL filters that comes with the 565. If we can use URL filtering based on list file, what is the maximum file size the cache engine can tolerate? The file I have is a URL blacklist based on a text file of about 40Mb and it is updated everyday.

Hi Jimmy,

Since the local list file is loaded into memory, CE performance will suffer if the file is too large. According to the following documentation:

the ACNS software will show a warning message if the file is abive 5 MB.

Hi Zach,

Thanks for this advice. Effectively I have seen this warning message when I activated URL filtering with this big list but it seems to work. However, since you told me about this performance issue, I feel less comfortable with that solution.

Is there another economical and efficient solution that I could apply to my cache engine? I've heard about SmartFilter. Is there some documentation on how to implement this on a 565 cache engine?
