We have several assistants that have an instance of their boss's extension on their handset. If a call comes in on one of these lines and the assistant answers, how do we "transfer" that call into the boss's office when its on the "same" extension?

To be short, you don't. Options in a typical setup are:

Hold on AA phone, Resume from Manager phone

Manager leverage Barge/cBarge to initiate conference and then AA drops call

Configure a secondary line on the Manager's phone that the AA can transfer calls to (this can be setup as an alternate extension in VM so that VM is not affected)

You may want to look at IPMA to see if it may have some additional capabilities to meet your needs. The main issue with your current setup is the process by which the AA notifies the Manager that there is a call holding or that they need to barge into. I have never been super keen on IPMA but you may find something useful. There are two modes - Shared Line mode (AA/Manager share a line) and Proxy Mode (AA handles calls on a proxy line - i.e., no shared line).

Hailey

Please rate helpful posts!

This can be done by increasing the busy trigger on the device you will be transferring to by 1. For example, if it is set to 2, it is going to hit the busy trigger on that second call and go to voicemail instead of ringing his phone.
