Can Phone Migrations be done combining CUCM 11.5 Phone Migration and TAPs Dummy Macs

Dear Fellow Engineers,

I am in the process of trying to devise a way to migrate several hundred 7900 phones to 8851s. I have been able to successfully test several phones and it works beautifully, migrating DNs, BLFs, etc. However, I was hoping that someone may be able to suggest a way to do it using like a self-provisioning style where users can call a preset number and enter their extension numbers and the Migration will take place, thus copying over all of their settings.

When I initially investigated and tested the new Self-Provisioning feature in CUCM 11.5, it seems more built for new site roll-outs, i.e., users who are being setup for the first time and will use a general template. However, for already established users, the phone migrations seems to me to work better. Our users have varying numbers of DNs and BLfs. The problem is that for use to scan all the new MACs and then ensure that each user gets the exact MAC is an administrative headache.

To be able to simply provide users with a new phone and have them connect it to the network, dial a number and have their phone settings migrate on to their new phone would be ideal. Any direction or alternative suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Jaime,

Is it not possible to use Dummy MAC natively with the Phone Migration feature of CUCM without use of a 3rd party tool? We didn't want to manually scan the MAC address of each phone.

Wow, this is awesome. I view you like a rock star in the Cisco realm of things, therefore, I wasn't expecting a response from you (my apologies for seeming corny).

However, as Lamar Demby, who is my team lead, just posted, is there any way that it can be done without a third-party tool?

The phone migration option from CUCM would delete the old phone, and only leave the new phone, so, all the new phones would need to be already accounted for and connected into your network.

Depending on when, and how many devices you bought, you might be elegible to get migration FX for free, get in touch with your SE and ask them about this.

Otherwise, you would need to use BAT, and you'd still need to get all the MACs for that.
