I can't see what NHRP could help in this case??? There are only 2 sites, both sites have statics IP, there are two routers at each site to do hardware redundancy. Will NHRP help in multicast traffic between sites???

TKS

Hello everybody!!!!

I'm desinging a network for 2 eletric substation following some specifications. (see topology.jpg)

I need to provide fully hardware redundancy between two eletric substation, provide encryption and VPN.

I'm planning to use Two cisco 1841 router with AIM VPN module and more 4 ethernet ports at each site.

This network is for security system (CFTV). Will have multicast traffic and some TCP traffic between sites, so I will use GRE Tunnel + IPsec to pass multicast packets.

For hardware redundancy I'm planning to use HSRP + IP sla command to verify the connection.

My client ask me to use NHRP, but i'm not sure how do I will implement NHRP in this solution ? It is not a point-to-point connection When I use GRE Tunnel + IPSec ?

Why I need to use NHRP in this case??

I appreciate if anyone could help me!!!

Thanks everybody!!!!

What is the WAN cloud (ie MPLS, frame relay)? Generally speaking NHRP is used mostly in NBMA WAN.

Maybe, depends on your overall network design. Here's a great article on what it does and you should be able to determine if you want it or not.

http://www.netcraftsmen.net/resources/archived-articles/433.html

I understood that with HSRP one router will be as standby gateway for the other site, so always two routers (one of each side) will be in standby status correct??

I was informed that will have mobile users acessing network from notebook remotely, NHRP will help them???

I'm reading the article know , thanks again!!!
