Hello everyone,

I was stumped by an odd symptom, when I make a traceroute test on my router or siwtch to the specific internet IP address 213.186.33.104, the output always is " * " as below, why there is no first hop has been displayed ? Basis on my knowledge the first hop should be the same as the default routing's next hop.

Router_A#traceroute 213.186.33.104

Type escape sequence to abort.
Tracing the route to 213.186.33.104

  1  *  *  *
  2  *  *  *
  3  *  *  *

I confirmed there is no ACL which could block the traffic and default routing is existing in the routing table.

Router_A#sho ip route 0.0.0.0
Routing entry for 0.0.0.0/0, supernet
  Known via "static", distance 1, metric 0, candidate default path
  Redistributing via eigrp 1
  Routing Descriptor Blocks:
  * 163.157.6.76
      Route metric is 0, traffic share count is 1

Router_A#sho ip cef 213.186.33.104
0.0.0.0/0
  nexthop 163.157.6.76 Vlan1

When I made another traceroute test to 8.8.8.8, it works fine on the same router.

could anyone advise for this symptom ? How should I start my troubleshooting ?

Thanks .

I'm having a problem with my cisco 2921 router which one of the symptoms starts as you have described.

Question for you. Does your traceroute work around 90 or so seconds later?

I've raised the following query in this forum;

https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/13153566/droppedforgotten-routes-2921-iinet-nbn

Not sure of the cause yet but new ARP entries are taking a very long time to be entered into the ARP tables.

Cheers

Hello Linz,

It has been never worked as expected. I think it is irrelvant ARP, the ARP entry for default gateway is existing .
