topic CDP enabled without configuration change in Switching

I have a recurring issue on several of my Cisco 6500 switches, CDP is enabled without any trail on "show log".

I have Catools doing the configuration compare and keeps picking up deletions which reference ports that have CDP enabled. After receiving these notifications, I log into the switches. The first thing I checked was "show log", and there is no "configured from console by vty" log. To start ruling out things, I go into "config t" and exit right out. This action indeed recreates a "configured from console by vty" log.

Has anybody encountered this strange unexplained CDP enabling?

Thnks

-Mn

Hello,

I have not encountered a similar phenomenon. My question is, how is the CDP disabled or enabled on your device? Is it disabled on a platform-wide basis (no cdp run) or on a per-port basis (no cdp enable)? Also, how exactly do you know that some ports have the CDP enabled - what is the exact message or report that indicates that the ports have CDP reenabled?

Best regards,

Peter

Hello Alain,

I don't have any personal experiences with Cattools (besides the Syslog and TFTP server which we commonly use for education purposes). But I can imagine determining or even configuring the CDP state via SNMP, so yes, absolutely!

Best regards,

Peter
