IP Helper-Address Questions

Hello everyone,

I am currently trying to set up a network using vlan routing and using the ip helper-address command.

I have the vlan routing working if I use the router as the dhcp server but as soon as I want to have my server running dhcp nothing on the network will get address besides the few statics I have on the network. I did verify that I had shut off my dhcp on the router and that the routing was correct.

So just to have a brief view of my network I have my cisco router connected to my ISP and my internal switch. The router is running PAT and I have no issues with it exchanging addresses between the external and internal networks. When the router is being my dhcp server for 2 of my internal vlans it routes properly between them. I have a few static addresses assigned to the vlan interfaces for the switch and the router. I am able to take a computer on my vlan 110 and properly ping the switch address on my 130 vlan. What won't happen though is when I put a computer on the 130 vlan it will not pull an IP address from the server on the 110 vlan while I have my ip helper-address command in the interface.

I currently do not have access to the config file but will post it when I can get to it.

If I am missing something or someone is able to explain it to me a little bit would be great.

Just thinking through your question and I am guessing at this point. The reason to have it configured on the SVI would be because the switch is not forwarding it to the router due to the trunk port on the switch right?
