Yes if there under support you should be able to replace them but again most companies don't cover them due to the cost , its a lot cheaper just to have a couple of spares on site.

Can Cisco GBICs be replaced (RMA/TAC)?

Hi :

I am a Cisco Employee. I work for SNTC IB team. SNTC collectors are discovering GBICs. My question is: if a customer has an issue with a GBIC, will TAC replace this part? Can this part be RMAd?

Thanks!

I have had GBICs replaced before but only when they came D.O.A , you will know anyway if it can be replaced by calling in the serial number but usually to most companies even though they are expensive are considered consumables and not put under support for RMAs but Cisco will honour them if you get a bad batch like we did before.

SNTC collectors are

SNTC collectors are discovering GBICs. My question is: if a customer has an issue with a GBIC, will TAC replace this part?

Yes and no. Because of the "size" of the SFP, the Logistics team do NOT have a list of SFPs out there. To RMA a faulty GBIC/SFP, the customer needs to quote an appliance's serial number (and not the serial number of the faulty GBIC/SFP).

TAC engineer will then do something on the database to RMA the GBIC/SFP and send out the replacement.

In a lot of cases, SFP (and not SFP+) are "non-returnable item". Ask first.

Hi There

Do you know if there's a tool to check that?

Where can I get more information about that process?

Regards,

TAC will have all the answers. Try it. Try raising a TAC case with the serial number(s) of the SFP and see what TAC will respond.
