Configure switchports from Prime

Hello experts,

I have a doubt concerning the switchports configuration from prime.

If you configure, let's say a switchport for a user, not directly from the switch but from Prime.

Does it save the configuration on the switch ? Does it "send" a write memory on the switch ?

Because we had an issue, a switch rebooted and all the switchports configuration done before the reboot from prime disappeared.

After checking the startup-config on configuration archive, the switchports config were not there ... So I am wondering if there is a way to verify that when you make a configuration change on the prime, it sends a write memory to the switch.

Thank you,

A.

"does it send a write..."

-> only if you tell Prime to do this, it will not do this automatically

when applying the interface configuration template when you scroll down you may see the options

- to save the current config before applying the template (within prime configuration archive)
with this archive you also have the option to roll-back the old configuration

- to save the configuration on the device (write mem)

apart from this

in the list of network devices you can select devices and use the config -> save option

The problem is our customer doesn't go this way to configure switchports.

He does the following :

- CONFIGURATION > Network devices

- Click on the concerned switch

- Select a switchport > Edit

- Change a static access vlan for example

- Save

But it looks like it does not make a write mem on the switch

Yes that is normal behavior.

the "save" sends commands to configure the port only

if you do it on the switch directly using the CLI, configuring a port will also not automatically save the config.

you must explicitly do a write

- CONFIGURATION > Network devices

- tick check-box for concerned switch

- Select the drop down menu under "config"

- tick save configuratio to flash

I see you still selected the folder "all devices"

go down to switches and routers, or even the specific model

and see how the tabs will change
