Hi-

I'm not sure what I'm missing here but I've successfully loaded a new IOS (c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-4.E6.bin), changed the boot statement, confirmed the next boot and then reload the switch. After reload it still winds up loading the previous IOS (c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-2.E7). Any suggestions on what I could be missing?

Switch#dir flash:
Directory of flash:/

2 -rwx 9623 Feb 20 2019 14:39:14 -05:00 config.text
3 -rwx 34 Feb 28 1993 19:14:50 -05:00 pnp-tech-time
4 -rwx 15675 Feb 28 1993 19:14:52 -05:00 pnp-tech-discovery-summary
5 drwx 512 Feb 28 1993 19:18:45 -05:00 c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-2.E7
586 drwx 512 Feb 28 1993 19:18:45 -05:00 dc_profile_dir
588 -rwx 1036 Feb 28 1993 19:01:13 -05:00 vlan.dat
589 -rwx 13086833 Feb 20 2019 11:55:31 -05:00 c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-4.E6.bin
590 -rwx 3837 Feb 20 2019 14:39:15 -05:00 private-config.text
592 -rwx 3096 Feb 28 1993 19:01:18 -05:00 multiple-fs

Switch#sh boot
BOOT path-list : c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-4.E6.bin
Config file : flash:/config.text
Private Config file : flash:/private-config.text
Enable Break : yes
Manual Boot : no
Allow Dev Key : yes
HELPER path-list :
Auto upgrade : yes
Auto upgrade path :
NVRAM/Config file
buffer size: 65536
Timeout for Config
Download: 0 seconds
Config Download
via DHCP: disabled (next boot: disabled)

after reload

Switch#sh vers
Cisco IOS Software, C2960 Software (C2960-LANLITEK9-M), Version 15.2(2)E7, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)
Technical Support: http://www.cisco.com/techsupport
Copyright (c) 1986-2017 by Cisco Systems, Inc
Compiled Wed 12-Jul-17 15:29 by prod_rel_team

ROM: Bootstrap program is C2960 boot loader
BOOTLDR: C2960 Boot Loader (C2960-HBOOT-M) Version 15.0(2r)EZ1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

Switch uptime is 2 minutes
System returned to ROM by power-on
System image file is "flash:/c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-2.E7/c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-2.E7.bin"
Last reload reason: Reload command

cisco WS-C2960+48PST-S (PowerPC405) processor (revision K0) with 131072K bytes of memory.

Last reset from power-on
2 Virtual Ethernet interfaces
48 FastEthernet interfaces
4 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces
The password-recovery mechanism is enabled.

Switch Ports Model SW Version SW Image
------ ----- ----- ---------- ----------
* 1 52 WS-C2960+48PST-S 15.2(2)E7 C2960-LANLITEK9-M

You should be able to delete the old flash file and reload. If you used the boot system flash command as below, and it did not work. You have to change the config-register. lookup the config-register, make the change, reload, and then change it back after it returns online.

boot system flash:/newimagename

You can delete the old image in the directory like this:

delete /force /recursive flash:/c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-2.E7

I did attempt the no boot system command, then boot system again, with a wr mem/reload following. Still no luck loading the newer IOS. I've listed my commands below. I'm using "boot system" since "boot system flash:" isn't an option, probably newer IOS version I'm guessing. Should I attempt to erase the older IOS, I don't really like the idea of doing that but can't think of any other options at this point.

Switch(config)#no boot system
Switch(config)#do sh boot
BOOT path-list :
Config file : flash:/config.text
Private Config file : flash:/private-config.text
Enable Break : yes
Manual Boot : no
Allow Dev Key : yes
HELPER path-list :
Auto upgrade : yes
Auto upgrade path :
NVRAM/Config file
buffer size: 65536
Timeout for Config
Download: 0 seconds
Config Download
via DHCP: disabled (next boot: disabled)

Switch(config)#boot system c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-4.E6.bin
Switch(config)#do sh boot
BOOT path-list : c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-4.E6.bin
Config file : flash:/config.text
Private Config file : flash:/private-config.text
Enable Break : yes
Manual Boot : no
Allow Dev Key : yes
HELPER path-list :
Auto upgrade : yes
Auto upgrade path :
NVRAM/Config file
buffer size: 65536
Timeout for Config
Download: 0 seconds
Config Download
via DHCP: disabled (next boot: disabled)
