I've only just started putting my devices onto floor plans, I've had everything placed on a map since I started using Meraki but I've now just realised that it looks as though a device can either be placed or a map or a floor plan and not both...

Given when you look at an access point for example theres the small map on the top left of the window it would make more sense to me if this showed the devices located on a map and then under location you could see it on a floor plan.

For those that have multiple sites it's useful to see where the device is located within the world and then using the floor plan to see where it's located within a buildings layout and then finally the photo to see how it's physically installed.

Now if I've got this wrong please correct me 😁

Yup, You're on the right track The way Meraki currently handles device location is indeed a sort of balance between Global Map Positioning (using latitude/longitude for an overview of the location) and Floor Plan Positioning.

You can try using network tags or naming conventions to maintain a sense of “global” location, for example by prefixing device names with site codes.

If this doesn’t solve what you need, I suggest you file a feature request.

The other thing I have found is heat maps no longer work as it only shows devices on the map and not floor plans.
