And if it gets no IP it will also attempt to mesh to other APs and will become a repeater. Some of the conditions on why are listed in this doc.

And easy test of this is changing a switchport to an AP to a null VLAN. After a few minutes the AP will mesh to another AP (if one exists) and become a repeater.

Hi, anybody know why AP can not stand alone as AP? i have 1 AP that connected as repeater even i have set the IP before. it connected to switch and not using power adaptor

If the AP is configured with a static IP, it will advertise "ssid name-bad gateway" when the default gateway is unavailable. If it has no other APs to mesh with that provide a route to the Internet, the AP will remain offline.

If it does find another AP with a route to the Internet, it will act as a repeater but the Dashboard will report that it has an invalid IP configuration.

Gateway AP Switches to Repeater Mode

It's very likely that this isn't connecting to the internet.

Can you verify the IP address configured on the dashboard when it's set up as a repeater?

Try performing a factory reset

If you connect a laptop to the switchport the AP is on does it get a DHCP IP (or does a static IP work)? That would at least confirm the switch is properly configured (carrying the mgmt VLAN for APs for example).

A meraki AP will only go to repeater mode if the cable that it is connected to does not provide a link to the internet.
This usually means a bad cable that is good enough to provide PoE but no connectivity.
If you do have a valid ethernet connection but can't get an IP on the AP due to no static that is valid and no DHCP server on the segment, then your AP will blink orange.
