Webex is not officially supported on Fedora, just Ubuntu and RHEL are. Although RHEL and Fedora are related, they may differ in some configuration or behavior issues.

If it has been working, that migt have been by chance and now it's gone..

The "plugdev" thing is an Ubuntu-only thing after all. Having just installed the latest webex rpm (webex-43.11.0.28947-1.x86_64, build date: Thu 07 Mar 2024 05:06:54 AM EST) I see it has created a new udev rules file. Behold:

$ cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-dsea.webex.rules
# Using the recommended uaccess approach for distros without plugdev group e.g Red Hat
# It has to come before 73-seat-late.rules
KERNEL=="hidraw*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="1395", TAG+="uaccess"

This file does indeed to the Right Thing™ on RHEL/Fedora systems. The other erroneous file - /etc/udev/rules.d/81-plugin-hidraw.webex.rules - can be ignored, or even removed if the messages are annoying enough.

Same issue with fedora 40. The issue is the plugdev group that is not used in Fedora or Redhat. Therefore it looks like someone made a mistake during compilation. What's more today webex wasn´t able to start and this is the only error I have received.

Has someone tested to see if this still works on RHEL? Fedora generally works when it comes to things like this. Is there a workaround for using Webex client on Fedora while we wait this one out? Is there a way to get an older version of Webex which was working?

Though RHEL is officially supported, it is version 8 which has already reached "end of full support" by Redhat. When will Redhat 9 be supported? Redhat ends RHEL 9 full support in 2027.

We have one person trying to use Webex on RHEL 9 and they just get a blank screen for the the login.
