Support of Prime Infrastructure API

My organization has been looking to leverage the Prime API for a custom location/alerting application and have hit a couple of bumps around wired and wireless data response consistency. I had opened a case with TAC to which the reply was "TAC doesn’t support using the API" and that "you’ll need to reach out to the developer network at https://developer.cisco.com". Community support is great, however it seems to me the approach is short sighted by Cisco. If the API is marketed as being valuable and used as a differentiator why does TAC not support it? A selling point of expensive enterprise software is support.

What are the opinions of the community in leveraging unsupported components of an enterprise platform to build custom, more than hobby, applications to support an enterprise need?

Or... was I misinformed and there is in fact support from TAC of the API?

I'm sorry that you had a poor experience with TAC. It's true that TAC does not support the API. We, the business unit responsible for developing Prime Infrastructure do; however, that's an internal difference that you, our customer, shouldn't have to worry about. TAC should've forwarded your support case to us. Could you please send me the TAC case number and the name of the TAC engineer via email (my email address is in my profile) so that I can follow up internally?

We do also keep a close eye on our DevNet community, so if you have issues with the API please feel free to reach out to us (and the community at-large) for support here. Another resource you can avail yourself of is ask-prime-infrastructure@cisco.com which is checked regularly by customer support engineers, product managers, and developers that work on Prime Infrastructure.
