Hello,
I downloaded and installed Webex linux app on my redhat laptop. But the app is not opening when I try to open it/click on the webex icon.
It is just not doing anything.

Any one experienced this??

Is webex client using Java or python(pyqt) etc. Just thinking if any of these causing it.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

You can check your version of Red Hat for compatibility, at the moment version 8 only is supported: https://help.webex.com/en-us/9vstcdb/Webex-for-Linux

Otherwise failure to start is often due to a missing dependency/conflict. You can check with:

ldd /opt/Webex/lib/libspark-windows-desktop-ui.so
ldd /opt/Webex/lib/plugins/platforms/libqxcb.so

for the most common cases.

We are working to improve user feedback when the app fails to launch due to runtime dependency issues.

I've also tried to install and use Webex v41.5.0.18815 on my Debian, Ubuntu and RHEL machines.

On Debian 10.9 (4.19.181-1) X86_64 Webex is not opening. But I understand that Debian isn't on the list of the officially supported distros (this is the first time, in my personal experience, that a software intended for a Debian-based distribution does not work on ... Debian!)

On Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (5.8.0-53) X86_64 Webex starts up regularly but once I enter my company e-mail, Webex redirect me to our SSO page and the web page elements are not clickable ... therefore I can't choose the Active Directory/ADFS option to to complete the authentication procedure.

On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 (4.18.0-305.el8) X86_64 Webex starts up regularly but once I enter my company e-mail, Webex redirect me to our SSO page and the web page elements are not clickable ... therefore I can't choose the Active Directory/ADFS option to to complete the authentication procedure (same as Ubuntu).

UPDATE June 23 2021: nothing's changed with the current release ((41.6.1.19162-1)

You can use Webex in Debian 10 if you upgrade the kernel using buster-backports.

I also have problem with ADFS, but only inside company network, from outside the App working fine. I tested versions 41.6.1.19162, 41.7.0.19440, 41.8.0.19732. According Webex log file, it want to have NTLM

May be something have to be done in configuration of company ADFS server, but I don't have access for administration.

But how can I collect these logs under linux? I can't choose the Active Directory/ADFS option to to complete the authentication procedure therefore I can't access the GUI ...

in my case, logs collected in a folder /run/tmp/home/notouchusr/.local/share/Webex, file current_log.txt

When I start App - Accept - input my company e-mail - Enter - and nothing just white window.

Application is working according a log, checking metrix, my license, my connection server https://u2c.wbx2.com. After that it forward me to adfs.mycompany server and drop connection, but have to be window with authorization.

I have huge collection of logs and wireshark tcpdump files, from inside and outside, with proxy inside and no proxy. Every time white window when inside the company, and working fine outside the company.

when I working inside over browser, than ADFS workng.I think something wrong inside Application, NTLM authentication is working fine in Webex Teams under Windows, not necessary to input ADFS credencial, but under Linux NTLM is not supported and Application have to ask me for authorization.

I have similar issue on linux(ubuntu 20.04): I enter my email and see a white screen.

I too am having this problem. After entering my email address, I get redirected to my company's login page, but I just see a blank white page, and cannot log in.
My logs don't show any obvious problem, no certificate errors or proxy issues. The only thing I think it might be is this:

In my case it was due to the enabled vpn connection.

Thanks. I tested it with the VPN disabled, and yep, it works now. This is still an issue however, because my organisation requires us to be on the VPN at all times when using a work laptop, especially when signing into federated login, with work credentials, like this.
It does work to disable the VPN, sign into Webex Desktop app, then re-enable the VPN, but I'd prefer to not have to do that.

Do you have set environment property http_proxy (or https_proxy or HTTP_PROXY,...) before running webex? It is needed when you are using proxy server.

sudo apt-get install apparmor-utils
sudo aa-complain unprivileged_userns
sudo systemctl stop apparmor
sudo systemcttl start apparmor

Under Ubuntu 22, there are 2 problems with the Webex client by Cisco:

1) The app uses sandboxing via user namespaces. This is blocked by app armor by default under older kernels, as it adds a potential attack surface.

2) The app does not seem to set its LIBRARY_PATH correctly on installation, or rather it does not install libraries into standard locations.

The suggestion here solves problem 1), by re-configuring app-armor to only log (instead of block) the usage of user namespaces. This has security implications. The recommended way would be to update to a later kernel, where app armor imposes less restrictions by default. Whether this is possible depends on available kernels for your distribution, of course.

This suggestion does not solve problem 2. If you start Webex via command line instead of clicking the icon in the GUI, you will see the error messages that remain. When running /opt/Webex/bin/CiscoCollabHost, I got error: Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped). This is because of the runtime libraries it requires (you can see them by running ldd /opt/Webex/bin/CiscoCollabHost). The solution for this is to set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to where it keeps them when running the app:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/Webex/lib:/opt/Webex/bin /opt/Webex/bin/CiscoCollabHost

Then you will have the thing running.
