Now it is 2026, X11 support will be dropped this year by major Linux Desktop Environment: https://www.phoronix.com/news/GNOME-50-Alpha
and we still have no workaround for Webex Screensharing on Linux.

The only thing working is the web client. I am using Ferdium to isolate different Electron Apps like this - however, the Features available there are limited in comparison to the full client.

Maybe the maintainer of the app can say something about resources available for this?

Hello everyone,

from time to time I try to switch from X11 to Wayland to see if screen sharing works on Wayland now. But it seems like it still does not (the feature is also still flagged as "coming soon" at the linux Webex page). But since there are rumors that Gnome and KDE will drop X11 entirely in the near future, I wonder if you could share some details of the roadmap regarding this issue?

Best regards,
Torben

indeed, webex is the only thing keeping me from using wayland, quite annoying

Hello everyone,

webex seems to be working if you start it with the command "WAYLAND_DISPLAY='' /opt/Webex/bin/CiscoCollabHost", but screen sharing is still broken and we have the year 2024.

Is it possible to fix it?

Best regards,
Nils

For me, it's the other way around: I tell my coworkers to contact me via another platform. I Cisco wants us to use their products, they should make them compatible with our platforms.

My solution has been to move meetings whenever possible to Microsoft Teams for which screen sharing works flawlessly.

The university still forces me to use WebEx for teaching but there I use the WebEx Web Client for screen sharing. Given the growing Linux adoption within our university, I am confident that it is only a question of time until we can pressure our IT department to migrate to Teams or to any other solution with decent Linux support.

how does it help to move to MS teams?
When you need to use web client for it to work?
MS teams has many downsides when you compare it to Webex, but I understand you Cisco is always sleeping on stuff that should have been done much sooner.
