Those codes are for setup of new devices, not to grant access to a pre-existing one. Can you please share a little bit of more information on what is that your trying to achieve?

I need to use the app to grant somebody else access to a device.

The system requires a 9 character code. Where do I get the code from?

I think they were referring to this
It is also described in https://help.webex.com/en-us/article/nf29igm/Webex-App-%7C-Manually-Connect-to-Cisco-Webex-Devices

I suspect it may be the code that appears at the bottom of the screen on the device, when you select Share screen, but I'm not sure.

That could be, but it’s somewhat incomprehensible to grasp that the OP would not see the code displayed on screen of the device. It’s a quite obvious thing if you ask me.

It was not immediately apparent to me either, since it's not something that's written on the home screen, and only shows up when you select Share Screen.

No article mentions that you have to look for it, in the Share screen tab. A few people on my end, who have also rarely used conference devices, were confused about it as well.
