Did you configure Extension Mobility (EM) on CUCM? EM allows the users to login to any device, regardless of the location or device pool... as long as the device resides on CUCM, within the same domain. EM maintains the user's extension once they login to the device via EM phone service. Also, this would establish 'phone control' between the device and Jabber via CTI... depending on your CUCM configs. If you have multiple clusters within the same domain, then 'Home Cluster' would identify which cluster the user belongs to.

quick question---is it possible to configure Jabber for users who are moving from one site to another? They are using same call manager but different device pool, extension number and location etc. Thanks

so without EM, this is not possible? We do not use EM currently.

No, there is no way to change the DN you use based on your location, you could adjust a few things with device mobility, but if you need to change your DN based on your location, you'd need several EM profiles for every single user, for every location they could work from.

In your case, the best solution would be Extension Mobility (EM) since everyone resides within a single cluster - that's regardless of the user's location. If you had multiple clusters, then Extension Mobility Cross Cluster (EMCC) would likely be the solution - that's if you had users moving between clusters. With EM, users would maintain the same telephone number when they move between locations. There's no need to have multiple EM profiles, one for each location or whatever. That would likely be difficult to manage and confusing for the customer.

Thanks for the info Mark....

My users don't move b/w clusters. They are on single cluster.

Can users have Jabber client install even if they don't have phone extension?

Yep, that's known as IM only. Just check (enable) Home Cluster and IM&Presence capabilities under the End User profile. And, they should be assigned to the 'Standard CCM End User' group - roles.
