No. I have to click on the app to make the service run. I see people stated that with Android 13 and 14 they removed the option to auto-run apps. I just see that being an issue because if someone were to lose their phone, you wouldn't even be able to locate it until someone opened the phone and clicked on the app if it were to stop running.

Looked through the forums but couldn't find what I needed. Android 14 removed the option to have apps auto-run. Due to this, majority of our android devices are not connected to the dashboard. You have to physically open the app on androids to make it run and check into the dashboard.

Is there a setting in Meraki to make sure the app stays running? Or has anyone figured out a way to get past this? We have a user who forgot their passcode, but we are unable to reset the passcode since the commands aren't actually pushing to the phone.

I don't know the answer.

Does it by chance run if you reboot the device?

I noticed the same thing, I have a handful of Android devices that have not checked in since they were originally configured, as I'm not to bothered I just ignored it but can see why this is a problem if you are actively managing these clients.

If you haven't already, please ensure you open a Support ticket for this so we can bring it to Engineering's attention. The more detail you can provide the better, this includes the specific built you're running, the manufacturer & model of device(s) impacted etc.

This seems to be exactly an issue that I am encountering. I have a device that was returned from a previous employee, and it is not checking back into SM dashboard to receive the command I sent to reset the passcode. I have tried rebooting the device, turning airplane mode on and off, and waiting a day to see if it would synchronize automatically, but nothing has worked.

Yeah, unfortunately we just had to factory reset the phone again to get in. Thankfully we still have backup folders of all the data we transferred to the phone so i was able to put that all back on. We did recently get some new devices in that are running android 15, and Meraki seems to be running a lot better on that version for Android devices.

I am trying to avoid factory resetting the device, as I did that on the last phone, after it was removed from Meraki, and now it asks for the PIN of the last google account. Of course this was a Meraki managed account, and I have no ability to access it either...

Hello @COPC_Caleb_K , thank you for bringing this to our attention!

By any chance, are the removed apps native apps from Play Store? Any MDM commands sent from our dashboard require that the device communicates with our MDM solution in order to successfully fetch those commands. Here is how you can bring the device back online and check-in to the SM dashboard: Troubleshooting SM Clients that Fail to Check-in to Dashboard

Is this issue affecting all Android 14 SM-enrolled devices? If yes, we recommend you create a case in the Meraki Dashboard by navigating to the ? > Get Help and Cases, and open a new case.
