Is there a way to have devices auto assign to a group based on a partial name of that device using Cisco Secure Endpoint?

Not in the product, but you can do it via API calls.

I would put all machines at build time into one group with an "acceptable" policy.

The on some regular basis run a script to move them.

I can post something tomorrow to get you started.

I posted a script to my Github. It could use a little clean up, but it works.

Set the source group and how many letters have to match between machine name and destination group name.
