Tech Support Engineer - Switching or System Engineer?

Hello,

I was recently offered two opportunities:

• Tech Support Engineer - Switching (VLAN, STP, but also typical tech support job, RMA, administrative stuff)

Day shift

Lower salary

Have to speak with local partners

Close to my flat

Hybrid-flexible model

Looks like a niche (specialist in something)

• System Engineer (Azure, Linux, VM, Docker, Kubernetes, Python, PowerShell)

Night shift (rotation)

Higher salary (night shift hours not included)

No interaction with customers

Close to my flat

Hybrid-flexible model

Looks like broad wide (specialist in nothing)

What would be your opinion on that?

Both have pros and cons, but I am more inclined to take the first job, CCNA prepared me for R&S, and also have plenty of years of help desk behind me.

For System Engineer, things are more blurry, after all I am not so much familiar with the Cloud in general, not sure how much I would like it. Everyone says System Engineers are in high demand and future-proof. It's the hot topic now. Nonetheless, I feel I should get hands-on switching experience and continue on that path. Is that switching position a minor experience or on the contrary will open many doors?

I don't want to find myself in the dead-end street in 10 years. I see a lot of Cloud, DevOps, System Engineer, Architect positions but very little R&S offers. I am 35 years old, time flies.
