i have a request to start using hostnames in place of ip addresses on the ASA (8.4) aaa server configuration . I've only used ip addresses when configuring aaa and most configs I've seen is configured with ip addresses. whats the advantages/disadvantages of using hostnames.

Thanks

The only thing that would add up with the hostname is DNS resolution should work fine. ASA should be configured with a DNS server. With IP, since there is no resolution process so it would be little faster.

~BR
Jatin Katyal

**Do rate helpful posts**
