Is RootPatch for ACS available in ACS 5.8 ?

I tried to create an ACS 5.8 VMware VM and get to the item on my build doc where I install RootPatch package. This does not succeed as libraries for glibc are not installed. I have this installed on all my 5.5 instances and is very helpful when I installed patches. It allowed me to drop into the OS and scp the patches or packages to the local server and then install from localdisk repository. When I can't do this I hit a timeout trying to install large files but from localdisk repository they install just fine.

Do I need a new version of ACS 5.8 or do I need to install other packages before I install ACS on the VM ?

Yes, you do, because ACS 5.8 is 64 bits, previous versions were 32 bits.

Any chance you can list some of the benefits of the root patch other than being able to copy patch files to the ACS and upgrading vmtools? I haven't found much information on the uses of this patch online.

The Root Patch provides access to the backend LINUX kernel. It is required under special conditions where in-depth troubleshooting is required.
