Deploying ACS is not at all daunting as you say. We need product and domain knowledge before working on any product especially security related products.

Cisco has a lot of reference/configuartion / troubleshooting guides in their documentation section.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2086/tsd_products_support_series_home.html

The user guide found along with the ACS installation is also very helpful.Online help in ACS ( Found in the right side of ACS GUI ) has proved worthy in many scenarios.

Deploying ACS appears to be rather daunting. What is the best traing resource for ACS? I would be interested in learing te capabilities of connecting to external databases such as AD, NDS (LDAP); as well as network devices.

I am trying to find an NFR or trial of ACS. The CCNA-Security topics still cover ACS and TACACS+ configs, but without the software to load in my lab, I have no way to get hands-on with this. Packet tracer shows that the "servers" will do AAA but the routers are not supporting the full code to get it to work. Does anyone know where we can get some hands-on? I look in the Cisco Dev-Ops and they do not have a sandbox for this.

Thanks
