topic after the Localuser Authentication Enabled, is the "write mem" different ? in Network Access Control

Hi,

After I enable the "localuser authentication" and "login local" function on a CAT OS Device

1. When logined with a privilege 15, it seems that the Running-config is sync to the Start-config automaticly. Cause they are the same when use "show run" and "show start"

So is that mean after logined with privilege 15, it doesn't need to save config after new settings??

2. When I execute the "write mem", it prompt some words like:"it could only works under text user config mode".

What is that mean?

Big thx~

Hi

The configs in the most of the CAT OS systems get stored either in NVRAM or in FLASH.

The main difference between NVRAM and FLASH is the total storage size.

FLASH device have more space and hold large number of files.

But if you are working with NVRAM then the config changes get automatically saved onto the NVRAM.

So theres no need to save the config changes.

To answer your second query there are 2 modes in saving the config files one is binary and the other one is text mode.

with text mode you occupy less space when compared to the bindary mode.

And though you work with ur NVRAM the auto save function wont work if your config is saved in text mode.you need to manually save it using wr mem.

Do refer these links for more info on the same..

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_tech_note09186a008015bfab.shtml#topic3

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a0080121d13.html#1022339

regds
