Oliver,

I found a better explaination for these 2 parameters on the dot1x commands for IOS.

tx-period seconds

Number of seconds that the system waits for a response to an EAP-request/identity frame from the client before retransmitting the request; valid values are from 30 to 65535 seconds.

supp-timeout seconds

Number of seconds that the system waits for the retransmission of EAP-request packets; valid values are from 30 to 65535 seconds.

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/122sx/cmdref/d1.htm#wp1142739

I think supp-timeout is client independent but tx-period is client dependent when it comes to EAP authentication requests and responses.

Just my 2 cents,

HTH
