topic NAC Framework vs. Port Based Authentication in Network Access Control

Hi everyone!

What's the difference between the NAC Framework and Port based authentication? As far as I gather, the NAC framework is basically port-based authentication using ACS as a RADIUS authentication server, plus using it (ACS) as an authorization server defining what networks you have access to.

Am I on the right track? Are there any other differences between them?

Also, is it possible to configure port based authentication using the local switch database instead of a radius server?
