vWLC only supports FlexConnect. Physical WLC supports either FlexConnect or local mode. ISE doesn’t dictate the AP mode. You can use either vWLC or WLC appliances with either ISE appliance or VM.

Hello Community,

i got a question regarding Cisco WLC and controler based accesspoints in connection with Cisco ISE. We´re deploying the cisco ISE in our environment. And now we want to know if it is necessary to configure the accesstpoints to flexconnect? We tried ISE in our demo Lab with vWLC and vISE and only Flexconnect was working... Our final goal is to change the VLAN of a wireless client as a result of the authentication process. With this step we want to consolidate our many existing wifi ssids.

Environment: Cisco WLC 5508, controller based AP 3700 series in local mode, Cisco 2960 series switches

Cheers,

Philipp
