topic WCCP with ASA in Network Security

WCCP with ASA

We have bluecoat cache engine , we configure the WCCP on it was working fine but when we put it behind the ASA it's not working anyone know the solution for this or if there a particular case for this

Hi,

Could you please explain your setup more clearly.

For WCCP to work across firewalls, you need to open the UDP port 2048 for WCCP communication.

i was doing some research ok the cisco.com and i found that the version of IOS that i use is 7.0 and as far as i knew this version it's not supporting the WCCP i should upgrade it to the 7.2 (please correct me if i am wrong ) and i saw some configuration example

hostname(config)# wccp web-cache

hostname(config)# wccp interface inside web-cache redirect in

but do I still need to open UDP port 2048 ??

Hi,

You are correct. WCCP is supported only from 7.2 for ASA.

The configuration that you are attempting is correct.

For this scenario you dont need to open any port explicitly for the WCCP traffic.

If you want allow WCCP traffic to pass through a firewall in between then you need to allow the specific port.
