Upgrading to a later version depends on many things... First, do you want to go to 7.X or stay with 6.3(x). The 7.X versions have new features which are not available to 6.x; however, the 6.3(5)( the newest) is General Deployment (no 7.X version is GD). Additionally, 7.X has memory requirements that must be met to permit the upgrade. I am managing >50 ASAs/PIXs running 7.2(2), and haven't had any major issues. I would strongly suggest going to this version, but you must check your memory first because it requires 64MB for restricted licenses and 128MB for unrestricted and failover licenses. To get to this version, you must first upgrade to 7.0 then you can go to 7.1 then 7.2. Be sure to use the newest version of ASDM if you want also (ASDM replaces PDM).

Here is a link to the PIX software..

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/pix

Here is a link to upgrade documentation..

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2120/prod_release_note09186a0080688c71.html (see section about Upgrading to a New Software Version)

Please rate if this helps!

Thanks.

Jay
