There are differences in supported firepower functionality for series 2 and 3 devices. Is there a clear view of what devices are series 2 and what devices are series 3 ?

Series 2 Devices are the older Sourcefire-branded appliances. They were all End of Sales back in 2012 or so.

They include the following models: 3D500, 3D1000, 3D2000, 3D2100, 3D2500, 3D3500, 3D4500, 3D6500.

All other dedicated NGIPS appliances can be considered Series 3.

(The ASA FirePOWER modules and brand new FirePOWER 9300 and 4000 series are in a separate class and neither Series 2 or 3.)

Hi All,

I have a CISCO ASA5545-x. I need to purchase the Firepower and smartnet features. I would like to know if these feautures need a Hardware module to be placed into the FW or if they need only SW to be loaded in the FW. Kindly let me know your idea about that. Your answer will be of high importance to me. Thank you in advance.
