I just plan on going through the software updates under the 'update' tab in the defense center. The only interuption would be during the reboot correct?

sourcefire updates

We have recently been managing the new X - series ASAs and I need to apply updates to sensors and DC. How is traffic affected on the reboot during this process? The customer wants to know how much downtime to prepare for.

thanks

Hi,

Hi,

If you mean software updates . On DC there is should be no traffic impact though you will not be able to manage the devices during that time.

If you talk about sensors it depends on what state they are deployed. Upgrade would be considered as h/w bypass.

Hardware bypass (fail-open or fail-close) :

 1. Power loss

 2. Rebooting the sensor

 3. Installing a patch or upgrade to the sensor (reboot)

Regards,

Hi,

Yes , for sensors , during reboot there will be slight interruption. As soon as you start the upgrade it goes to h/w bypass.

If due to some reason upgrade fails then it will continue to run the previous version .

Regards,
