How do I add an IP address/Subnet to a specific VLAN?

Hello.

I wish to transprt an IP address across my network and eventually add the host IP to a local VLAN group.

ie outside address is 10.1.1.14 (no associated VLAN membership) and I wish to introduce this to VLAN 2 (uses 10.1.2.x locally)

can I use simple routing(and possibly NATting) or must it be inserted into the VLAN to be able to speak with the other hosts ?

You need to incorparate it into VLAN for communicating with other hosts.

To communicate between VLANs you need Layer 3 (routing) capability. You may also need trunking to allow VLAN information to move from switch to switch.

Could you draw us a diagram/configs of what you have and what you want?

Notes for the simple Visio Diagram included

SPOKE SITES

VLAN 1 = all IP Phones

VLAN 2 = All Data network ( everything else )

Cisco Call Manager at each location

HUB SITE

I want to connect 4 IP phones to a switch and have phone 1 call site 1 , phone 2 call site 2 etc....

No Call Manager.

all phones are IP phones and need to have IP's assigned per DHCP (Local Router as server)

so how should I get the IP from phone 4 to the CM of location 4 (to make a call to location 4) ?

I was thinking that I need the IP from this phone somehow inserted to the local VLAN

connection to hub from spoke is over Frame Relay

connection between spokes works very well

Each location uses different subnets for each VLAN

10.1.1.0/24 for location 1 VLAN 1

10.2.1.0/24 for location 1 VLAN 2

10.3.1.0/24 for location 2 VLAN 1

etc.....

normal IP is used over FR to communicate between spokes

I think that this should be enough info for you to help me
