Dear community,

We have a project were, Networking infrastructure should be done parallels to Systems Infrastructure, in order to meet timelines. I have a Stack Switch were my FTDs will be connected, and this is the switch were Hyper-V virtualization infrastructure solution will also be connected.

The issue is that, I need a Hyper-V VM based machine to install FMC, so I can manage my FTD's. However Hyper-V takes some time to be done, thus delaying my project timelines.

So I was wondering a workaround of my FMC VM which later could be migrated, later on the process, to the permanent infrastructure. With this in mind, I was wondering if its possible to install a virtualized Hyper-V environment on my local PC, and manage the FTD's from there, and when the Hyper-V infrastructure gets finished, I migrate the VM to the permanent solution.

Can someone point me to a similar solution, or any idea, suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Best regards,

Laura

As long as the virtual meet the requirement, you can install where ever required :

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/firepower/quick_start/fmcv/fpmc-virtual/fpmc-virtual-vmware.html

You can Migrate later when the environement ready, backup and restore or snapshot and install.

when you moving to new infrastructure, you can install FMC and register FTD to new FMC , make sure all working before you remove old temporary solution.

@laurathaqi it sounds like you want to virtualise Hyper-V on your local machine in the short term, but Hyper-V is not supported for FMC, no idea when or if it will be.

You'll either have to purchase FMC hardware, use Vmware or another virtulisation hypervisor or use FDM/CDO. Depending on what features you require from the FTD using local management might not be a good idea, as FDM does not support as many features as FMC does.
