What is the version recommended for this model ?

There is no recommendation but it is always good to upgrade to the latest code as it has most of the bugs resolved.

The latest version is 9.1.7.16

You can go the latest ASDM version which is 7.8.1.150:

What is the best practice to upgrade it ?

You need to follow this path:

First upgrade to 8.4.5 and then you can jump to the latest version.
