topic BOOTVAR string with multiple IOS version in Network Security

Hello All.

This may be a re post, but is there any reason someone may add this many images to the bootvar? Would it be due to the way different version(s) of the ASA IOS interpret NATing? or even access lists? I can see having one extra in the string for redunant needs - but four? can the other images listed be removed without indident?

BOOT variable = disk0:/asa961-smp-k8.bin;disk0:/asa931-1-smp-k8.bin;disk0:/asa931-1-smp-k8.bin;disk0:/asa921-smp-k8.bin
Current BOOT variable = disk0:/asa961-smp-k8.bin;disk0:/asa931-1-smp-k8.bin;disk0:/asa922-4-smp-k8.bin;disk0:/asa921-smp-k8.bin

Thanks In Advance,

Hi Goodwinag

you don't really need for but its best practice to have at least 2 or 3 incase of corruption , you can remove the others without any issue but you should leave 2 at least , most people don't bother removing them that's probably why 4 have built up there is no specific reason for it
