topic ASA bug fixes and software version questions in Network Security

Hey all,

My question is about how Cisco handles bug fixes for different ASA code releases. For example, I get daily email notifications from Cisco showing new and fixed bugs and the code releases they apply to, e.g.

Known Affected Releases:

100.16(15.5), 9.4(1.104), 9.4(2.9), 96.2(0.42)

Known Fixed Releases: *

100.13(0.144), 100.15(0.125), 100.15(0.126), 100.15(0.129), 100.15(0.131), 9.0(4.40), 9.1(6.142), 9.1(7.9), 9.2(4.14), 9.3(3.10)

My questions are what is these 100.x releases, and how do I find more specific code versions like 9.1(6.142)? When I go to download software, I see releases like 9.1(6) for example, but not the more specific (6.142). Also, I often see that a bug has been fixed in say 8.4(4), but looking at the downloads, the most recent release is still several years old. Are bug fixes backported to these older releases? I see interim and maintenance releases, but they still don't seem to match the more specific version numbers listed in the bug reports.

Thanks!

The 100.x series of ASA

The 100.x series of ASA releases are internal builds and not available to customers. I too have always found it misleading the Cisco publishes those numbers on the BugID pages.

If a specific interim release cited as being the fixed version is not available on the software download page for that platform and you are affected by that bug, you can open a TAC case and request a special file publish for you. They should either do that or else make an alternative release with the fix also in it.
