Throughput on Network hardware

Hi ,

Can any one explain me what is exactly " Throughput " which is referred in Network devices hardware comparisons. Is this something the rate which the devices send the data per second ? For example, if We see Firewall throughput on ASA5520 is 450Mbps , what does it mean ?

How can we interpret and understand this !

Hi Ajay,

Yes you are right.

For Calculating Throughput on the ASA, We have to add received or Transmit traffic in bytes/sec on all physical interfaces.

You need to check the "show traffic" output

on the: Aggregated Traffic on Physical Interface

grab the receive pkts/sec plus the transmited pkts/sec of all the physical interfaces.

Now divide it by 1024 to get kilobytes and then divide it again by 1024 to get megabytes/sec.
