I'll answer my own question. Yes, I needed to TFTP asdm-743.bin to the firewall. Odd that the ASDM binary file was not in flash.

ASA 5506-X missing ASDM

Unboxed a new ASA5506-X, powered up and started following the quick start guide. I don't have a inside switch and don't need the Firepower configured. I connected a PC to gi1/2, received an IP address 192.168.1.5. According to the Quick Start Guide, I should be able to browse to https://192.168.1.1/admin and launch the ASDM. I would also assume since I already have ASDM linstalled, I could run it directly and connect to 192.168.1.1.

This does not work as I get a page not found. I can ping 192.168.1.1.

Connected a console cable and did a dir and I don't see the ASDM image. This is all I have:

ciscoasa# dir all-filesystems

Directory of disk0:/

92 -rwx 69454656 13:24:42 Jun 23 2015 asa941-lfbff-k8.SPA
93 -rwx 33 13:28:50 Jun 23 2015 .boot_string
11 drwx 4096 13:27:18 Jun 23 2015 log
19 drwx 4096 13:28:24 Jun 23 2015 crypto_archive
20 drwx 4096 13:28:44 Jun 23 2015 coredumpinfo
94 -rwx 41836544 13:33:50 Jun 23 2015 asasfr-5500x-boot-5.4.1-211.img

7859437568 bytes total (4524847104 bytes free)
Directory of system:/

1 ---- 0 00:00:00 Jan 01 1970 running-config

No space information available
ciscoasa#

Do I need to copy the ASDM-743.bin to the firewall?

I'm in the same situation, could you please tell me how you accessed the asdm-743.bin file?

Presumably it was via the Cisco Support website, however I am currently unable to download the file due to apparently not having some sort of software support contract? I'd appreciate any additional info you can provide.

I do have a support contract and was able download the software.

You should be able to open a warranty case via the Chat Now feature at:

https://tools.cisco.com/ServiceRequestTool/scm/mgmt/case

or 800-553-2447

and request the software.
