I would request you to try two different ASA ASA 8.2.2 and latest interim code for asa 8.2.5.x and see if it is able to boot ?

Thanks and Regards,

Vibhor Amrodia

Cisco ASA 5505 - Possible counterfeit / Fake hardware or software Bug?

Hi All,

Picked up a Cisco ASA 5505 for home use as I have been working with the PIX and ASA firewalls for years. This one came from eBay, listed as removed from a government production environment. I took it home and booted it up and it needed a password recovery. I followed the password recovery procedure as normal and was about to work on upgrading the software when this happened:

ciscoasa>

***
*** --- START GRACEFUL SHUTDOWN ---
***
*** Message to all terminals:
***
*** Failed Identification Test in slot 0 [2/2]
The module in slot 0 in this appliance may not be a genuine Cisco product. Cisco warranties and support programs only apply to genuine Cisco products. If Cisco determines that your insertion of non-Cisco memory, SSM modules, SSC cards or other modules into a Cisco product is the cause of a support issue, Cisco may deny support under your warranty or under a Cisco support program such as SmartNet.

Any ideas??

Chris

Hi Vibhor,

I've tried a few other images and suspected I was encountering the CSCuh57109 bug.

The repair image for this 8.2.5(50) has also resulted in the same message.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Vibhor,

Any chance I would be able to open this under the above bug? As it's intended for a home system I didn't get SmartNET and I wouldn't want to have the case listed under our coporate account?

Thanks,

Chris
