Are you able to copy the new config file to flash?

If so, you should be able to then do the following:

copy disk0:/<new file name> running-config
wr mem

Thanks Marvin,
As you said i also tried to copy from flash to running but it doesn't work.
Is it happening because the old asa 5585 configuration file is of version 9.2 and new has a version 9.8 ????

And one more thing if I want to erase the current running-configuration file and start with fresh without affecting the flash memory files and license file so what's the best method for this??

version 9.1 to 9.x does not matter in regards to the configuration.

@Marvin Rhoadscould pult light on this. why dont you go into box and give command "config t# clear configuration all". this command will erase all configuration in your box apart from crypto key/s. however you lic will stay intact.
