topic Moving ASA5505 flash to new unit in Network Security

Hi,

My ASA 5505 just died. No sign of life whatsoever. So I bought a new replacement 5505, but then I see that the new unit has an older version of the sw compared to my old unit. So I tried to insert the old compact-flash into the new unit, and it boots ok, and I can ping it. But it's not accessible via ASDM.

Is it possible to move an ASA 5505 compact flash from one unit to another, or do I have to restore from a backup, and then upgrade the sw ?

Regards

Mats

Problem solved. This is what I did:

1) I pulled out the newer sw images from the old CompactFlash card for the crashed ASA using a USB-reader

2) Configured factory-default config for the new unit using http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa82/configuration/guide/start.html with IP-address the new unit should have

3) Make sure that configuration is reset back to 0x01

4) Start ASDM and upload new ASA and ASDM images

5) Restore backup
