ASA show environment

Hi all,

I've got a 5520 running 9.1 - is there a reason there is no:

show environment

Has it been changed/removed? (Would like to check temps as the fans speed up every now and then - and the ASA is not doing much at all right now).

Hi,

Atleast the ASA 9.1 Command Reference lists this command

Though it seems that this command is only supported by the following ASA models

ASA 5545-X
5555-X
5580
5585-X

Check the "Usage Guidelines" in the below link for the command

Don't believe that particular output is for the old 5500 series ASA.

It was originally for the 5580 series, then the new ASA 5500-X series.

Jouni and Jennifer have it right - the environment reporting features were introduced first in the 5580 and then across the board in the X series.

The legacy 5500 models (5505, 5510, 5520, 5540 and 5550) do not and will not have that support, no matter which software level. The sensors aren't built into the hardware.

Thanks all.

Why then would the fans on the unit noticably speed up for periods - if there are no sensors telling them to?

You're welcome.

It's because sensors that tell a fan to turn on (or speed up) and sensors that expose discrete values to the devices's supported MIBs are two different things.
