topic Firepower IPS Throughput in Network Security

Theoretical question:

I have 4x 1Gbps links on my Firepower IPS.

The datasheet of my IPS indicates a maximum throughput of 4Gbps for IPS services.

Following questions:

- If 100% load on all my interfaces (1Gbps up & 1Gbps down per link), is my IPS 100% in use?

- Or do I need an IPS with 8Gbps throughput?

Thanks!

You second assumption is

You second assumption is right. If you have 4*1GBit full duplex, then you are pushing 8 GBit/s through your appliance and you need a much bigger box.

But given that your links will never be 100% saturated in both directions and you optimized your IPS that you disable signatures that you don't need, then you perhaps could shift the investment a bit into the future.
