ASA5585x with Firepower SSP - Unified Image

Dear experts,

What are Cisco's plans with customers who have 5585x's with firepower SSPs, will or is the unified image (be) supported? How would we go about managing the devices? Will it be through a management console like managing FP but for ASAs as well combined?

Hello Bilal,

I hope you are reffering to the FTD upcoming images. With FTD you can manage ASA (except ASA5585) and the 9300 and 4100 appliances. You can’t manage any S3 Firepower devices also. This means it won’t work with the existing 7000 , 8000 hardware or ASA5585 also.

You have to use the same hardware module image of Firepower with ASA5585 to manage. I will also check if there is anything else that has been chartered on the roadmap.

Thank you Jetsy, so for now does that mean we manage the ASA's via ASDM and the FP via the FMC?

(ASA5585x with firepower services module installed - not separate appliance)

Hello Bilal,

Your understanding is right. As of now you can manage the same way since ASA Hardware module and Firepower hardware appliance doesnt support FTD.
