topic Failover licensing in Network Security

Need advice on PIX licensing.

I would like to implement failover mode for my PIX 515E firewall that has a 4 port FE card. Currently using 4 of the six interfaces so the PIX is running an unrestricted license.

I have another PIX 515E I can use, I just need to buy a 4 port FE card for it so the hardware will be matched. Problem is it only has a restricted license. I have a quote to purchase the failover feature license, do I also need to upgrade to an Unrestricted license (could be costly).

I suppose my question is does the failover feature license support more than three interafaces?

Hello alan,

you cannot do failover with a restricted license in 515 E.. you must get a unrestricted one.. no other go..

you also cannot put a 4 port ethernet card on 515 E with restricted license.. the max number of interfaces on a restricted platform is 3...

you can just order for an upgrade from a restricted to a unrestricted license..

PIX-515-SW-R-UR=

PIX 515/515E Restricted to unrestricted software license upgrade. Includes PIX-515-MEM-32 to upgrade base chassis from 32 Mbytes to 64 Mbytes.

Hope this helps !!

Either you have to get both UR bundles on your PIXes or you can get one with UR and other with FO bundle. The UR-FO might be cheaper than the UR-UR bundle.

Hope that helps!
