IPS 4345 Error: Cannot communicate with mainApp (getVersion)

All,

I have a remote IPS 4345 giving me the following error:

Error: Cannot communicate with mainApp (getVersion). Please contact your system administrator.
Would you like to run cidDump?[no]:

This always clears up after a hard reboot. This happens on a number of my devices about once every 2-3 months. I upgraded one of them to 7.3 (2) but it has not resolved the issue completely. I was wondering

1 - Is there anyway to break into this and do a soft reboot remotely?

2 - Has anyone had a similar problem and been able to resolve it without a total re-image or just replacing the device?

3 - IPS units seem for less stable than other Cisco equipment, are others experiencing this as well and performing periodic reboots? I have many that are up for about a year, but I would say 10-20% have to been reboot ever 3 months.
